No relief to farmers from Marathwada and Vidarbha.
Mumbai, 16 November 2019,
Farmers across the state who have been waiting for financial assistance from the government were left disappointed on Saturday, as the relief declared by the Governor was meagre and doesn't even compensate them for their labour expense.
And so, Balasaheb Thorat, President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Commitee has demanded that Governor re-consider this decision and increase the relief amount to be given to the farmers.
Giving his reaction on the decision announced by the Governor, president of Congress Pradesh Commitee, Balasaheb Thorat said that then 'caretaker' chief minister of Maharashtra had annouced an estimate loss reported from the state due to the unseasonal rainfall. And taking into account the figures released by the state government at that time shows that crops in 325 talukas in the state were damaged.
And areas in North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha had reported the highest amount of losses. And as per the decision taken by the Governor to limit the relief upto 2 hectares it will not give any relief to majority of farmers from Vidarbha and Marathwada.
And even the assistance of Rs 8,000 per hectare for the Kharip crops and of Rs 18,000 per hectare for horticulture crops is very less and will not help the farmers at all.
Thorat said no relief has been declared to the affected fishermen by the Governor and also the Governor should re-think his decision and increase the financial assistance, said Thorat.
