Sanjay Nirupam questions the so-called ‘achievements’ of Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai: Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam attacked Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis as the latter completes 4 years of being in power today. Listing down the unfulfilled promises and failures of the Fadnavis-led State Govt, Nirupam stated that the entire State is paying for Chief Minister’s shortcomings and poor decisions.

Pointing out the increasing crime rate in the city Nirupam said, “How does the Chief Minister plan to curb crime rates simply by installing 5000 more CCTV cameras across Mumbai while in reality, the conviction rate is falling miserable. Neither women nor children are safe in the city or the State. In the year 2017 alone 4356 women were raped in the State and 20% of the total number comprised of women from Mumbai. 4547 children were raped while 23,826 children abducted in the past 3 years. 12,689 women were raped, 35,347 women were molested and 18,378 women have been kidnapped in the past 3 years. What exactly is the CM proud of?”

Speaking about the current farm crisis in Maharashtra Sanjay Nirupam said, “The development in Mumbai and Maharashtra has come to an absolute standstill. Even after more than a year since the loan waiver scheme Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana (CSM SSY) was announced, it has failed to keep its promise of benefitting 80 lakh farmers across the State with a waiver of Rs. 34,000 Crore. While one crore farmers had applied for the loan waiver, the Govt has only been able to benefit 39.78 lakh farmers so far with a waiver of Rs. 16,498 Crore. Devendra Fadnavis has barely been able to achieve even half of what he had promised. The direct result of this massive failure of the Govt is reflected in the rising incidents of farmer suicides. 10,000 farmers have committed suicide in Maharashtra under the BJP Govt's watch".

Claiming that the city is still recovering from the blow of demonetization and implementation of GST Sanjay Nirupam said, “The Chief Minister is in no mood to provide relief to the victims of demonetization and implementation of GST in the city. The real estate business has not been able to cope from the blow of demonetization and implementation yet. More than 5 lakh flats are still lying unsold because the purchasing power of Mumbaikars has gone drastically down. Areas like Dharavi, Kurla, Charkop, Malvani and Malad among others which have high number of slums, have witnessed a 50% shut down of the small scale factories. More than 25,000 lakh Mumbaikars have been unemployed since the implementation of GST and demonetization while there is no employment generation”.

Speaking about other issues which haunt the people of Mumbai and Maharashtra Sanjay Nirupam said, “There has been no infrastructural development and not a single project has been completed in the city in past 4 years. The CM had assured that the first metro would be ready by the year 2019. We are 2 months away from the deadline and the metro construction work is not even completed by 20%. If we continue at the current speed, we won’t be able to have the promised metro for the next 10 years. Only 9% of Mumbai trans-harbour link corridor which is supposed to ease travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai has been completed. The never-ending construction work of Metro has led to narrow streets and increase in the traffic problems thus causing inconvenience to the Mumbaikars. The CM has set in motion the process of cutting 2701 trees in Aarey Colony for the Metro 3 car shed. While the BMC has already flouted the High Court orders and axed 150 trees, there has been no afforestation or transplant. The rules of the Development Control Regulations too have been altered to help a lobby close to builders and common citizens are not the beneficiaries of Development Plan 2034”.

As Sanjay Nirupam listed the so-called ‘achievements’ of Devendra Fadnavis and his Govt throughout the past 4 years, he has asked the Maharashtra CM to state the one he is proudest of.
