Mumbai: Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam today slammed the BJP Govt for their comments against the Congress Party and Party President Rahul Gandhi over their support for people across different religions and castes. Supporting Rahul Gandhi’s stand for the people of India, Nirupam called the BJP as a threat to the secularism of the country.

Sanjay Nirupam said, “We take pride in the diversity and secularism of the country. Unlike the BJP, people are not mere vote banks for us. The BJP has always been luring the majority for their vested interests and kept on subjecting the minorities to atrocities every time they have been brought into power. Now they are attempting to shame anybody who is trying to help those in need. And by doing so the BJP is reiterating its hatred for all other communities. Also, the Congress Party doesn’t need to appease the minorities. We simply work for them.”

Taking a dig at PM Modi Nirupam said, “Out of all the issues that continue to disrupt the internal peace and harmony of the nation as well as economy, the Prime Minister has chosen to speak on a comment which might or might not have been said. And he didn’t only uphold this but also looked down upon it at the same time as if taking a stand for the minorities is unacceptable”.

“This is just another example of how the BJP resorts to cheap methods only to mislead the nation for their own benefit. But this doesn’t shake our belief in the values of secularism and democracy in the country. We are Indians first. We have always stood for the marginalised and will continue to do so in the future”, added Nirupam.
